Repair School Roofs with Exposed Asbestos
Project cost: $4,000
Project name: Maria Paz School
Community: Tela
Community Need – The Challenge
Seven classrooms in this poverty-stricken school were barely inhabitable due to asbestos ceiling tiles breaking and falling (especially during rain) from the damaged roof. This a very dangerous health risk for the school children. There are three other wings with similar problems for future consideration.
The Solution
Hands to Honduras supplied all materials to make adequate roof repairs to one wing containing two classrooms. The roofs in this wing were more complex and thus only one wing could be completed. Outside and inside walls were painted.
Community Participation
The community supplied all labor!
Project Thoughts & Considerations
This was a genuine humanitarian need as the children will greatly benefit from the reduced risk.
